Near rangefinder quality with Konica Hexanon AR 40 f1.8 pancake (film)

Better image quality possible only with rangefinder lens.

Konica Hexanon AR 40 f1.8 pancake lens is in the small elite group of sharpest entry level manual focus lenses. It is so good that better image quality can be had only with a rangefinder lens.

In the image above taken recently with Fuji 200 color negative film Hexanon 40/1.8 pancake lens draws the scene with superb clarity. If the same scene was captured with a rangefinder camera and lens certain features might be slightly better defined. However, the difference would be small. Hence the decision needs to be made between best image quality (rangefinder camera and lens) or frame and focus through lens (SLR camera and lens).

Creative photographers often adopt both systems, rangefinder for best image quality and sharpest SLR lenses like Hexanon 40/1.8 pancake for precise framing and focus.
